UK Trust funds VoiceAmp research

The Dominic Barker Trust, a UK charity called Dom's Fund, has been set up for research into stammering..

The fund is in memory of a witty, intelligent and much loved young man for whom the burden of stammering was so great that he took his own life. The trust has sponsored VoiceAmp to develop a telephone interface for Stammerers that rely on the telephone but find the anxiety too much to cope with. Helene & Alan Barker recently visited VoiceAmp in Cape Town to meet the research team, headed up by Andre Hoek.

VoiceAmp’s MD, Alan Falck, said “VoiceAmp are delighted to be involved in this project and have applied for IDC backing. This project will push the boundaries of assistive devices and take technology to new heights.  We will be delivering a poster session on this subject at the ISA conference in Croatia in May 2007.
